07 Jun «Woman and Cat » of Guttero : one of the key works in the 1° Masters Auction of June
«Figure and cat» belongs to the period in which the artist lived in Paris. In it we see a figure of a woman reclining on a bed in a room of Paris. Clear eyes and raven hair, she protects between her arms a black cat whit an indifferent look. On the contrary, she is concentrated in the painter, the person that´s immortalizing her. In the background you can see a landscape with few houses and hills, the noon light caresses the window and you can almost feel a gentle spring breeze.
Alfredo Guttero was an artist who mastered all the techniques: pencil, oil, tempera and cooked plasters (personal technique invented in 1927). It was one of the main protagonists of the cultural renewal that took place in the first decades of the twentieth century that historians call modernity. He spent most of his professional life studying and working in Europe. It was in 1904 awarded a scholarship by the Argentine government and lived until 1916 in Paris. He studied with Simon and Maurice Denis Luden. He lived then in Segovia and Madrid, Germany, Austria and Italy. After more than two decades, in September 1927, he returned to Buenos Aires, where he displayed an intense activity until his death in 1932. The exhibition of Baltimore, in 1930, he won a first prize. Later he opened in the hall of the Wagnerian Society an exhibition hall and arranged with Dominguez Neira, Raquel Forner and Alfredo Bigatti a free atelier in the passage Barolo.
